PLay to lose - kind of - did I discover something about me?
I played a MTT the other day, one that the top 9 places won a seat in a bigger game. I started playing and I soon realised the follow up game was on Saturday and I can't play this Saturday. So I thought, "sod it, lets have a bit of fun". I didn't go crazy, but I raised anything half decent, in mid position or later, and I called or prevoked any all-ins with any pair or top cards. I also raised any flop where I needed the 5:1 card to complete my straight, or 2:1 flush draw. This was mainly met with folds and nice pot steals, or if it went to showdown I won.
Frequently when all in with low pairs like 66, I'd find I was up against AK, A10, AJ. And I'd win. I started amassing chips and was in the position to call smaller stack all-ins with little investment from me. i.e. I called an all-in with 2.5k chips (still had another 14k spare) with 78suited. They had AK and 44. I hit a pair of 7's lol.
And so it went on. I was chip leader within 40 mins and I basically gave up at 14th as I didn't want the prize.
Thing I'm wondering, is was I really jammy, or is this maybe an indicator I'm playing way too tight post flop normally?
