Downturns or luck basically, have little to do with strategy. Unless of course the downturn in your fortunes is to do with a regression in your standard of play. In which case i suggest you review your starting hand requirements (ie stop trying to be Gus Hansen by playing 8,6 off in early position)
Bankroll management is vital in combating downturns. They say if your playing sngs you should have 50x the buyin you play. Eg you play $10 sngs you should have $500 in your account.
This allows you to go on a bad run without impacting so greatly on your state of mind, state of mind being key to good performance. Once you start playing scared, or to the other extreme chasing the debt, you enter into a downward spiral resulting in progressively worse play. Before you know it you'll find yourself waiting for a wealthy relative to perish so you can play poker again.
