Default The PKR Challenge

I was looking back through my rakeback sites and spotted that I had been paid $1.85 into my PKR account from one of the sites. I haven't played there in about as month so I must have played my last hand there at the beginning of July and earned my little bit of rakeback. My PKR account has been empty for a while after I withdrew my funds to play elsewhere, but now I had $1.85. So what to do with it? You can't withdraw less that $20 so I figured I may as well play it out.

So I set myself a little challenge. See how much I could make $1.85 grow. The plan was simple, just play Sit and Go's only and maybe throw in some MTT's if/when it got bigger. No cash games. The only exception to this rule would be if I didn't have enough for a buy-in, i.e. it fell below $1.10

So I entered a £1 SnG, leaving just 0.75c in the bankroll. Well fortune smiled on me and I won it. I now had $5.75. I entered 2 more $1 SnG's but didn't cash so the bankroll fell to $3.55. I entered another $1 and cashed in 3rd place. The bankroll now standing at $4.45.

I then decided to try and speed things up and enter a $3 SnG (PKR doesn't do $2 ones for some reason), with the reasoning that I would still have $1.15 left for a last $1 throw at the dice if I lost. But, with relative ease, I won it (you know sometimes that everything goes well, this was one of those times. I hit hands, made successful bluffs and just couldn't seem to lose). So now the bankroll had grown to $16.15. I decided to stick to the $3 level and entered another. I bust out on the bubble when my flush was beaten by a full-house, so the bankroll fell to $12.85.

The last game I have played so far was another $3 and it was quite a mammoth affair with a very long heads-up where I almost lost it a few times. But I managed to survive and eventually turn the chip lead around and win it. Another $12 profit

So at this point, the bankroll stands at $24.55, a whopping 1,327% increase. I intend to stay at the $3 level until I hit $50 and move up to the $5 level. I then plan to move up levels (or drop down levels!) using the 10x buy-in as a guide from then on. So if I drop down to $30 I'll drop back to the $3 level and if I hit $100 I'll move up to the $10 level, and so on.

This is purely a bit of fun. I think I read somewhere that Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson once turned $1 into $20,000 playing online. I don't for one minute expect to reach that mammoth target but it's going to be interesting.

And, in fact, I have actually enjoyed playing PKR again. Who knows, if this goes well I may be back on a more permanent basis. The move from cash games to SnG's has certainly changed my game and I am enjoying more success and profit to be honest. I haven't actually played much poker over the last couple of weeks after deciding to take a small break from it, but now the urge is coming back.

I'll keep you posted how this little project goes
