hehe - thx bud. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Once I realised how everyone seemed to play (and there was not much variance) I was set. God, I folded a few pocket pairs!. Once it was the wrong move - but all the rest made me smile.
The biggest thing that struck me was that practically everone thought it was "fishy", "weak" or "lame" to lay down a hand with a resonable sized pot. That's what I noticed and cashed in on. I could hear the tuts and sighs when I got pushed off a pot, but inside, I just smiled as I knew I was doing the right thing. Didn't take long to get all the chips off those that did it to me :-) Bit of an argy kicked off on one table - a table with the more "lively" players. I gather someone said he was the best player there and another chap took exception. Only one of that table made it to the final, and I took him out. Best hand was when I had JQ clubs with a 2 club flop. I called a 300 raise to see the turn. Missed. Then the other guy only bet 200 so I of course called and hit the river club. That, apparently, made me a fish :-p |

Where was this Dodgey? I just want to know so i can avoid the place. Seems very unfriendly to me what with arguements about who is the best player and what not. We would never call someone we considered a bad player a fish at our club (atleast not to his face

Wasn't as bad as it sounds mate - they apologised and continued after a little shouting. Generally everyone was fine, although an aweful lot seemed to have a lot of advice to give on how you should have played a hand. I think telivised poker is to blame.
Very civilised at the final table. |

Ah, perhaps it isn't as bad as it sounds. We too get a lot of 'vocal strategists' voicing their opinion on pretty much all hands that are played. I think these people just arn't confindent in their game and need to announce to everyone that they know whats going on and they have a good grasp of poker. I tend to let the chips do the talking.
However i'm still interested to know where you played this mtt (was it the gutshot?) Keep up the good work live Dodgey, not only is playing live shed loads of fun but it will improve your online game no end. |

I sent you a PM you donk! :-p
And yes - one of the dealers there told me it improves your online play. I didn't believe him at 1st, but after thinking about it last night, and of course, all day today (grin) I can believe it now. I can't put my finger on it - perhaps it's seeing the people behind the cards for once, perhaps it's just a better perspective of what needs to be done. I'm not sure, but I,m feeling like a reborn player and itching to get stuck in online tonight. And I'm sure as hell playing live again. Sitting at a proper table, with a dealer, lived up to my expectations. I could concentrate on the game and play it properly. Plus, having that arm rest on the table is magic - I was shuffling my chips like a pro in no time lol! - it was a nice thing to concentrate on when I was being scrutinised. Saying that, every Tom Dick and Harry could chip twirl etc (which I can) but I refrained 100% as it just seemed too showy. |

What are you talking about Dodgey, you gotta bust out them chip tricks otherwise who is going to respect you lol. I love doing chip tricks. At the limits i play it can really intimidate people. Plus i'm starting to build a pretty decent repitoire(sp?). I can do a chip shuffle, knuckle roll, twirl, butterfly and i've nearly got the anti-gravity chip thing down. I'm also working on a one handed shuffle, antonio esfandiari style. Just to let everyone know that i'm the man :P

Everytime I sit at a table and see a guy doing chip tricks I target him as easy money. Here's why. Most players that spend their time doing tricks are very hyper agressive. They just can't sit still and need action. I wait till I know I have them beat and I pounce on them. Speaking of Antonio, some friends of mine from Great Lakes Poker and Gaming Magazine had him at their booth in Las Vegas for the WSOP*. He drew a nice crowd so I walked over to the inside of the booth to watch his card tricks and was just in awe and this guys magic. Not to mention that he was as friendly as can be. Here's a picture I snapped of him signing the felt prior to the Ante Up For Africa Charity Tournament. ![]()
