I dont know if this has ever been discussed on here before, but I thought i'd bring it up.
Does anyone use their avatar to their advtange? To try and project and image of themself? This could work especially on PKR. I saw an article about it on a program on the poker channel on sky, and thought I'd investigate the idea they put forward further.
I cant seem to find many articles online about it. Was wondering if anyone agrees with this? To be fair, I didnt think that i thought too much into peoples avatars... However upon reflection, I do cast images about that type of player. Usually if I see someone covered in tatoos, for some reason I image them as the sort of player who sees themself as a hustler, and i expect them to be aggressive with not much of a hand. Sort of an aggressive Gambler.
Theres also the debate about playing against the opposite sex. Are men passive to women or more aggressive? I expect women to be more passive towards me on PKR. Its an interesting part of the online game. Obviously live, you can get lots of tells about the kind of players your playing against by talking to them, finding out about their job (get an idea of their bankroll and how serious they are about playing) and how much they have played in the past, what sites they play on online, that kind of thing. You also get the visual tells; i.e do they seem nervous, are they confident looking, are they loud in the card room (I find loud players are the gamblers).
When Im playing live, I find the age of the player to be helpful insight as to what I expect them to be like. I find young players (around my age) are either novices (this is very apparent quickly), or they are very enthusiastic about the game, and are keen to make impressive plays with good hands, and are usually a typical tight-aggressive player (sometimes i find they are too tight, and can bluff them easily), whereas I find older players are quite loose and love to just play for the gamble. Especially where I play in a lot of rebuy games, I notice this. The amount of times I have had someone suck out on me, and then go into some patter about how they are just here to play cards, and usually try and tell me some ill-advised rubbish regarding odds (My local casino doesnt exactly put on the greatest games). I wonder if this should be taken seriously in PKR and online poker, as obviously, you can just hide quite easily behind your avatar and keyboard.
Anyone have any thoughts about avatars?
