Default Late registration

I've seen late registration being used in tournament games on a couple of sites.
In one extreme case I witnessed, a game with a large gauranteed prize pool the late registration continued for nearly 2 hours! (Basically until the prize pool was reached, so no overlay).
What do people think about late reg, should it be allowed? I guess people can vote with their feet if they don't like it, as many sites don't do it at all.

Well it depends i think full tilt does it good allowing late reg for rebuytourneys as long as rebuyperiod is in effect and for other games only allow late reg until the first person is knocked out.

Anything more else is downright swindle in my book as many join the last minute after seeing how many joins in the first place.

I've done a few late registrations
as long as they are "normal" I don't have a problem with them

I'm actually still on the fence with this one, and leaning a little more toward not having it. The reason why is that I registered for a MTT that had maybe 50 people in it, and that's a big part of why I registered. So when the late registration allowed another 100 people to get in on the action, it just threw me right off. Not to mention that it was my first time experiencing the late reg. and I didn't see it posted in the tourney info.

I mean, if it's only for say, five extra minutes or something, that's cool. And as long as it's posted in the tournament lobby so players are made aware. It just seemed that in the one I played in, the late registration went on FOREVER. I don't know exactly how long, but I swear it must've been 10-15 minutes and more and more players kept signing up therefore more than doubling my competition, which I originally assumed would only be said amount. Rather frustrating...

Obviously with a larger stature tournament, late registration should be given to players, but like I said, for only a few minutes at most. That would allow the player who were simply late getting to their PC to join in without any worries, etc.

I just reread your replies and I agree completely. Referring back to my situation, more than double the amount of original registered players signed up more than ten minutes after the tournament had started. It just kept going, and going, and going...

And Hellwung, with your example of one going for nearly two hours, I don't even know when mine ended... I was knocked out and it was still going and this had to have been at least half an hour into the original start time.

Don't quote me on this one, but I'm almost certain that PKR doesn't offer any late registration for it's tournaments.

We were just discussing other sites...

Please do not overuse the term EV, whether it be positive OR negative.

Thank you.

Yeah, I agree with you JDhmac, a little bit of late reg is acceptable, maybe 5 minutes. But sites are taking the piss when it goes on too long, I'm like you I want to know the size of the field before the tournie starts as I like between 50-100 players.
