Losing is down to luck...
Winning is down to skill....

I only seem to have luck.

Its not the hands you win its the hands that you don't lose.

Luck/Skill - this is the debate that has caused all the legal issues...

Good article in this months poker mag about how long it takes to differentiate between a lucky donkey and a good wolf on mtt - I hope I am a good wolf but suspect I have been a lucky donkey.....

What Goodwin was saying in the full article was that to progress in a tournament towards winning the thing is that the top guy don't consider/bother about the bubble and are prepared to gamble as that point approaches. If they make a move with any two cards i.e 9-2os and get called by K's or A's and they end up cracking those they then enter the final furlongs stacked and able to take a stab. Where as on the other hand a player who has paid or qualified for an event via a sat or just paid his own cash is more than likley to be happy to crawl over the bubble line.

He was talking after his GUKPT win and was commenting on how tournaments have changed over the last number of years and how luck plays a huge part in you making just a cash finish let alone winning one and that sponsored players have the luxury of being able to gamble at each tournament they play. Their gambles may get get them knocked out of five but the sixth time they are lucky and progress, they have the sponsorship to thank for being able to progress in many a tournament.
Not to say they are not good at playing poker but they play the gamble percentages game because they can.

There is no denying to get a top 3 place in a MTT you need a good helping of luck. I've discussed it with Fonzi before, that in an MTT you usually need a good three or four suckouts to get the kind of stack you need to win. You just can't put all your money in preflop and be sure you are favourite every time unless you always have Aces. And you have to end up all in a few times whether you like it or not.

Interesting about sponsored players - makes a huge difference in a large buy in game if you have "nothing to lose"

Well, just played 4 STT SnG's and had two pair beat 4 times, each time with a river suck-out. Think it's time to give it a rest here.
Good LUCK

For those of you who think online poker is rigged, go read the reporting on the WSOP Event #31.

Read all the big hands, The river was deadly.

Congrats to Dario Minieri on winning his first bracelet.

Especially read hand #191 on day 2. SICK SICK SICK. But to his credit, if the river hadn't been so cruel to him, he would have won it 3 hours earlier.

Comment on the bad players above is the true part - so much of the time, the assumption is that everyone is betting on the same level but, more frequently, they're not....

It's one of the reasons why I love the pkrn games because the likelihood of a muppet staying in until the river lessens because there is at least an understanding of the odds.

There will still be sick suck-outs on rivers but - typically - I'd say that i've experienced less on private games, just because those left in at the river are likely to have a playable hand.
