Its not the hands you win its the hands that you don't lose.
Luck/Skill - this is the debate that has caused all the legal issues... Good article in this months poker mag about how long it takes to differentiate between a lucky donkey and a good wolf on mtt - I hope I am a good wolf but suspect I have been a lucky donkey..... |

There is no denying to get a top 3 place in a MTT you need a good helping of luck. I've discussed it with Fonzi before, that in an MTT you usually need a good three or four suckouts to get the kind of stack you need to win. You just can't put all your money in preflop and be sure you are favourite every time unless you always have Aces. And you have to end up all in a few times whether you like it or not.
Interesting about sponsored players - makes a huge difference in a large buy in game if you have "nothing to lose" |

For those of you who think online poker is rigged, go read the reporting on the WSOP Event #31.
Read all the big hands, The river was deadly. Congrats to Dario Minieri on winning his first bracelet. Especially read hand #191 on day 2. SICK SICK SICK. But to his credit, if the river hadn't been so cruel to him, he would have won it 3 hours earlier.

Comment on the bad players above is the true part - so much of the time, the assumption is that everyone is betting on the same level but, more frequently, they're not....
It's one of the reasons why I love the pkrn games because the likelihood of a muppet staying in until the river lessens because there is at least an understanding of the odds. There will still be sick suck-outs on rivers but - typically - I'd say that i've experienced less on private games, just because those left in at the river are likely to have a playable hand. |
