Haven't voted as I can't say I've witnessed abuse of female players specifically. But, do agree that the comments and emotes used by some players can get a bit much, and in many cases, does cross the line between friendly ribbing and just downright nastiness.
I know it's one of the prime attractions to the site, but personally when I play in a tourney or sng I turn the chat and emotes off completely. I find that I concentrate a lot better on my game without the distractions, and will turn it on again when (if!) I get into the last stages of the game. Normally at that point (generally once you're in the money) the other players are a little more intelligent and can hold a decent conversation in between playing.

The advantage of this approach is that it tends to irritate the tosser who has been giving you crap or being abusive in the first place. All he wants is to put you off your game, and when you simply do not react to the comments, jibes and emotes, he is the one that lands up getting irritated!

I agree the abuse you are referring to is totally unnaceptable. I have regularly (ok PKR) seen guys calling women F*cing slags, whores, sluts, you name it. Really not on.
I too switch off chat most of the time now. Mainly because someone heads up totally put me off once by being uber abusive to me every time I had to make a decision. |

well i for one believe female players should stay at the bingo sites and leave the real gambling to the men...........women call anything...women get lucky more times than i care to remember and most of all its called POKER not BINGO...and unforunately most and i say most not all female players play like poker like its a game of bingo... but then again i dont swear at them i just call them bingo players...i dont condone bad language or sexually based comments towards women..but then again if they were on a bingo site and not a poker site it wouldnt happen would it

Don't be too put of by Sir C, Silver. He is a noted misogynist who struggles to accept that there a bunch of female players who regularly take money from him.
And not for any of the reasons that he claims, but purely because his attitude towards them has developed such negative karma for the hands he palys against them that he is destined to lose against them more often than not. That and the fact that many of them are simply better poker players than him

i agree that there are a minority of females that do behave in the same manner but you'll probably find that they have suffered abuse at various times and have decided that to be aggressive is the only way to get respect.
Unfortunately as we all know this is not the way to gain it at a poker table, but as to the females being as bad as the males i disagree completely. When i've seen the sort of rubbish they have to put up with from male players in the chat box, i could give you a hundred examples but none of them suitable for posting here. Yes they can click ignore and turn the volume down and all the other things to stop the abuse but invariably the abuser just changes tables in search of other victims. You don't allow bullying or abuse at school or in the work place so why should it be acceptable around a poker table? After all it's a game for gods sake to be played and enjoyed in the spirit of friendly competition!! ![]() |
