PKR is giving away two packages worth $13K each to the series opener which takes place in Barcelona, Spain from 28 August to 1 September - including your buy-in to the event plus $2K spending money!

From now until 10 August PKR will be running satellite qualifiers to the Main Event, where the top two players will walk away with the Barcelona EPT packages. I've been to the casino of Barcelona this week ( just came back from holiday's) and it's less than I expected. I thought it would be a big shiny building, but it isn't that big. At that moment, they only used 3 poker tables and played €20/40 Limit. That's too expensive to me, so I just played Roulette.

They do have enough area to place a lot of poker tables, but I guess most people just love to play caribean stud poker and roulette in Spain. That's what 90% of the people were doing.
But hey, who cares about how the casino looks like anyway. Being able to play in the EPT is awesome!

lol - that reminds me of when I ventured into the Casino Royale in Monte Carlo - 500 Francs on roulette - which lasted 2 goes.

Then ploughed some Francs into a slot machine. I big win dropped in but it didn't pay out. I called over a security guy and he said that the symbols did not line up exactly so I didn't win. One symbol was out by about 3mm. I left :-P

Mind you, there were a crowd of wealthy old ladies putting like 5k a time on a single number on the roulette table whilst sipping G&Ts and talking about their yachts. :-)

I won one of these 2 seats last night and all from a 400 PKR point freeroll.

The 2007 EPT Barcelona kicked off today. We would like to wish "vnmr1" the best of luck on his quest for poker greatness. As of yesterday there were 490 players registered so it may be a sellout.

Among the famous players slated to start action today are Katja Thater, Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier, Annette 'Annette_15' Obrestad, Jimmy 'gobboboy' Fricke, Noah Boeken and Jon 'PearlJammer' Turner, while Wednesday starters include Greg Raymer, Humberto 'my shark is getting annoying' Brenes, Luca Pagano, Dario Minieri, Dag Martin and Isabelle Mercier.

For those of you who don't know Annette 'Annette_15' Obrestad, it is because she is only 18 years, but the Norwegian has made quite a name for herself online with a few big wins, including a payday of more than $150,000 just a couple of weeks ago.

Quick update for you all:

David Williams is an early short stack

Phil Gordon is playing today

Annette "Annette_15" Obrestad (Norway) and Jon "Pearljammer" Turner (USA) are at the same table. For those of you who don't follow online poker rankings, Annette_15 is ranked #5 in the world and PearlJammer #7. It will be interesting to see how they do going up against each other today.

Legend has it that Legend has it that Annette "Annette_15" Obrestad won $9 on a freeroll and parlayed that into a hefty bankroll.

If any of you know vnmr1's real name, please PM me so I can try to get a chip count for him.
