Whilst playing low level SnG's back at PKR, I was involved in a curious hand.
This was a 10 seater, $3 Sit and Go. The blinds were 100/200 and I had hit a bad patch. I was comfortable at one point but I called an all-in from the short stack with 10-10 and they didn't hold up. Then I went totally card dead for ages and my stack was being whittled away. I had about 1100 chips left and was dealt Jc 10c in early position. I limped in, SB limped too and BB just checked. The BB was also the chip leader. The flop came down 10-7-3 rainbow. SB checks, BB bet out the minimum bet so I push all-in. Now the SB calls, leaving himself about 1,000 chips. But the chip leader in BB re-raises all-in. The SB thinks for a while, but eventually folds. At this point I think I am doomed. I figure that the BB has a 10 too, but probably A-10, K-10 or 2 pairs with the 10. I reckon the SB folded because he thought the same thing and he was hoping that the BB would bust me. So it's time to flip over the cards. I show my 10-J and am amazed to see the BB has 10-6 off suit. My J-10 holds up and I triple up (SB called my all-in before folding). Then came the tirade from the SB who apparently folded 10-Q !! He would have won the pot and knocked me out. He was asking the chip leader why he re-raised with 10-6 off suit and was obvioulsy upset and went on tilt. He finally found time to play his hands after constantly bombarding the chip leader with abuse but he went out a few hands later and ironically I bust him. I went on to win the SnG but only because of the strange play from the chip leader. I don't quite fully understand his play. I raised all-in, there was a caller so what would he think his 10-6 was beating? He surely must have thought at least one of us had a 10. I think in that position, I would have folded. And it would have been the right choice because he was being both our hands and I would have been knocked out.
But that's the beauty of poker. Everyone plays differently and this particularly SnG win of mine was only made possible by this play from the chip leader. Out of interest, the chip leader came second to me in the end.
