How many % of your bankroll should you take to the table max?

I read somewhere you should risk max 5%, but i find myself usually at the table with 15-20%.

Here is how I play:

If I sit at the rings, I like to sit with max, which is 100x BB. This should be 10% of my stack. So, if I have $2k, I sit at 1/2NL with $200.

I've always made sure i had at least 20 buyins to play at any given limit. Minus 0.10/0.25 when I started with my original $25, from there I built it up.

I play 6 tables at once, so if I bought into six $200 NL tables, i'd be sat down with $1200, and when I have days like yesterday it can be devastating for my roll...1/4 of it gone in an evening
if i just sat at two tables then I probably would be alright, but i'm too way susceptible to tilting badly :[

The thing is, this is the fourth time i've moved upto 200$ and had the worst luck right off the bat. Next i'll wait till i'm at $5000 before I move back up.

Tomorrow I may just sit at two $200 tables and see how it goes - it probably isn't wise sitting at six $100 tables when i'm lucky to even hit a pair!

Sayign that - if you are playing poker for a living (and I think far far less people are truly doing that than they claim) then yes, playing below your bankroll is daft.
Are there actually players on this forum who play poker for a living?

Mambo- 6 tables..impressive. Best I can successfully manage is 4. And with this many tables, I dont refute your idea to stay lower.

On that note, I have had the same luck at $400NL as you are at $200NL. Not sure if its my inability to keep the same mindframe, or if I am looking at the bets and raises differently, but it is something I mean to fix.

Dunbar- I wouldnt call my playing "for a living". I am a college student with full-ride scholarship, so my room and board is paid for by the school. However, my only form of income for extracurriculars is poker.
