Default KK uTg

The other night, playing in a tournament, about 50% gone, I am above avg stack. I get dealt KK under the gun. ( the table had varying chip stacks )
Instead of the normal x3 or x4 raise, I simply called. And would have called a push all in from a low stack, other wise I will treat myself to raising the flop.

this is how it played out
*** FLOP *** [Ts Ad 5s]
K1n9 K0n9 checks
Lucky Queen checks
Assistanc3 checks

*** TURN *** [Ts Ad 5s] [Ks]
K1n9 K0n9 bets 240
Lucky Queen folds
Assistanc3 calls 240

*** RIVER *** [Ts Ad 5s Ks] [4s]
K1n9 K0n9 has 15 seconds left to act
K1n9 K0n9 checks
Assistanc3: nh
Assistanc3 has 15 seconds left to act
Assistanc3 checks

*** SHOW DOWN ***
K1n9 K0n9 shows [5c As] a flush, Ace high
Assistanc3 shows [Kd Kh] three of a kind, Kings
K1n9 K0n9 wins the pot (1,400) with a flush, Ace high
*** SUMMARY ***

now the King on the turn looks really good for me right? ( thats why I had to call )
I doubt he was holding a King himself, so I had to put him on slow playing A rag or a set (Tens) and hoping I caught up.
........but the king could help in the draw ( straight or flush )

After he checked the river, notice how I say nh, even before the cards are shown. There was no way it would have been smart to bet the river.

A case example of how to slow play, and let a big hand go

At first I thought that was a great read, til I saw 4 spades on the board (took me 10 mins to notice). Good restraint in not betting when checked to ya, many cant resist. Only play I dont like is the UTG limp. I know many to it, but its a play I have never been fond of when near avg stack. When short stack or among chip leaders, Im fine with, but not as an average stack.

Borgo, I was above average stack, and the chips stacks all varied in counts
I was trying to induce a short stack to push ( as i had said )

SSS, it was on full tilt ; )

many can't resist raising pre flop too

the river was simple to check down, reverse implied odds
it was the bet on the turn that sent off the bells.

With A-K-10 and 3 spades showing by the turn, I would be going slow too. After the river, I would probably fold to a big bet especially as there was little invested in the pot.

I too would have raised pre-flop. In my opinion, if the short stack is going to push they generally tend to do it based on their cards alone and most won't care if you raised or not. If fact they probably prefer a raiser because there is a good chance of geting called. I know when I am short stacked and get a hand to push with, I hope someone will raise before me. And I have seen it too many times when people limp with big pairs and the BB has junk like 8-3 off suit. Then flop comes down 8-3-2 rainbow and then KK looks very nice but it's burn time (yes, this happened to me once, except I was the one holding 8-3. lol).

However, I have seen the top pros limp from early position with premium hole cards hoping to get a raise so they can re-raise. In fact I posted a video clip on here about it and he swiftly folded his A-A on the flop becuase of too many people in the pot.
