Today has been a weird day for K-K

I've managed to get it 3 times with a different result every time!

The first time was plain crazy. I had some guy on tilt after taking most of his stack when my trip Jacks beat his 2 pair. Luckily he was sufficiently low in cash that this beat didn't sting too bad. Anyway, after his whinging he immediately raised 8x BB. I looked down at K-K and called. I really wasn't sure if this was tilt from him or not. Well just the 2 of us saw the flop and I wanted to avoid an ace - naturally. The flop came down Q-6-7 rainbow. He proceeded to push all-in. Now it was only $15, but it was a big overbet to the pot. I figured he couldn't have Q-Q because he would have slow played them on that flop. He may have A-A of course, in which case I would be unlucky. I figured he had A-Q and decided to call. I was well in profit at this point from him, so even if I lost this hand, it wouldn't hurt too much.

Imagine my surprise when he turned over 8-2 off suit!!! lol, I was jumping for joy at catching him on tilt. The joy faded though, quickly. Remember that flop? Q-6-7 ... well the turn was a 5. I was thinking "Please don't do this to me...", but alas the poker Gods didn't listen. River was a 9 and he hit his straight. I was gutted. K-K crushed by 8-2 off suit.

The second time was also a bit cruel. I got K-K UTG and raised. It was re-raised behind me which sent alarm bells ringing but I called. The flop stopped us both dead. 5-6-7 all spades! Neither of my Kings was a spade. We both checked. Turn was an 8. Check check again. River a 9! A straight on the board! Check check again and he showed J-J. Damn board robbed me as we split the pot. If that flop hadn't been so scary I would have bet out and possibly taken it down. In hindsight, that's what I should have done anyway.

Finally, I got a bit of luck the third time. Again I had K-K called by late position. The other player didn't have too much cash in front of her. The flop was Q-Q-J. I bet out, she called. I'm a bit worried about hands like A-Q here. I didn't like her flat call. Well, the turn was another Q. I bet out, she pushed, I called. I wasn't sure of anything here but she didn't have enough cash to make me fold. I was only worried about A-A or quads. Anyway, she showed J-J and my full house beat hers. I felt sorry for her because she flopped a full house and had me beat. It was unlucky for her a 3rd queen hit.

Finally, I busted K-K myself with 6-7 suited. He min raised pre-flop so it was an easy call. The flop came down 3-4-5, with 2 of them spades (my cards were diamonds). A great flop for me obviously. lol. He bet the pot. To push out any flush draws, I raised it up quite a bit. He came back over the top all-in! Such a large re-raise kind of put my mind at ease about the flush draw. I hadn't got him down as a donk so I certainly didn't think he would go all-in on a flush draw. I called and his K-K simply had no chance against the straight and I doubled up nicely. He did a bit of cursing, but mainly at himself. He thought I might have hit the straight but hoped I was drawing and trying to push him out. He was gracious enough to acknowledge the hand and took it well.

So today has been a love-hate time for me and K-K, but at least I have made a profit from it eventually

First time, if you thought the guy had AQ you should have moved in, because he would have surely called.

Second time, you should really be betting that flop. If your opponent has a spade now is your opportunity to stack him. Although in this instance, it was probably destined to be a split pot anyway but you weren't to know that.

Tonight I have both slow played and gone aggressive on KK which has resulted in the same result (me losing). However - I have won hands from some of the crappiest combinations of cards when basically being backed into corners on STT's and bringing myself back far enough into contention to finish 4th....

The moral of the story...if you're gonna lose....you're gonna lose....

Never ever slowplay high pocket pairs!

How often do you win big pots with only ONE pair?

Preflop is a bit hard to get more than just the ONE pair but I know what you mean and that's where i'll delay to try and maximise the benefit of a decent deal...which is where I tend to get bitten in terms of getting nailed by a flop along the lines of rainbow 256 and discovering that they've got 34 of the same colour and thinks it looks pretty....

As a serious note - this is probably a key difference between where people play....

Whilst the pkrn game can show how that I can play "properly" - I play at 3/5$ level which does invite the Bansai pilots and I lack the patience at the moment for decent MTT play which usually kills them off...playing at a higher level is the answer to playing more conventionally (i.e. not as online poker)...

Be interesting to see the play level of others in the pkrn fanclub...?
