Okay, here's my hand history from the hand that MJRacing took me out with.

Looking at it again now, my read before I call all-in was spot on - I had a strong feeling that he was holding A8/A9 and was aiming for the straight. Not in a million years thought he'd call me with a hand hinged on making the straight on the turn/river, especially with the two diamonds on the board.

Yeah, you're certainly the favourite with a flush draw vs a straight draw, I guess he figured he could afford to risk it as he was chip leader and would still have half his chips left even if he didn't improve, plus he might have been considering other outs like pairing the ace, also he may have sussed that you were gunning for the flush and thought if you didn't catch it he could win with the ace high.
Losing out to a pair of 4's though that does kinda suck, unlucky...
(I hate it when those flush draws don't come off)

Default Bad luck

You did nothing wrong. Most of the time he will not hit the straight and it will be a split pot. The only alternative is to fold preflop, or move in because any meaningful raise (if called) would have committed you to the pot anyway.

Given there was $2,000 in the pot and you only have $10,000 left moving all in preflop is not an unreasonable play (as is simply folding). However, I'd rather move in with 78 suited than A2 suited because of the likelihood of only having one live card if called.

You did the hard work by putting yourself in the situation to get lucky and qualify. Unfortunately once the blinds are so big in relation to the stacks luck plays a big part and this time it wasn't on your side.

No regrets I say.

Aaahhh - just nice to see a hand that I won...they're overly rare these days! Or perhaps I'm just having a negative influence on myself at the moment....

I just deleted a whole load of bolx - thought you called - but you pushed. I'd say yes, right move.

lol - Geezilla was a tad unlucky though as the game had been a typical pkrn one with some good, sensible play being put through but i'm sure we've all had much, much worse at different times!
