hi m8,ive been playing omaha for about a month now.its hard to get the hang of it first, but i learned how to play by the poker school on the pkr site.it helped me alot.u said that u find it hard to fold before the flop.to become successful at omaha, dont play lots of hands even if u hav a pair of 4s in your hand.think about position.only play pocket jacks or higher from early position, then middle pockets from middle position and low pockets from late position.play tight aggressive and the more u play like this the better u will become.see u at the tables

Thanks for that PokerKid, it's really hard to be tight in that game, not only do you get the low pocket pairs tempting you but also the tasty looking suited and connector cards.
I think my problem is I started off quite loose and got lucky, I won a few hands and made a fair bit on a cash table (I then got greedy and moved up a couple of levels to a higher stake cash game where I got burned!) I guess I'll take your advice and try and play a bit tighter... cheers |

often times I have noticed people play Omaha the way they should be playing Holdem' and vise versa.(playing to loose in Omaha)
Omaha is a much tighter game, and although position does matter, it does not make as much of a difference in Omaha. With the explosion of Holdem to the world, people are now getting rather bored with it and now playing other games, omaha, razz, stud, etc There is a lot of money to be made at these other games if people actually invest their time and money into them. a really good example, sorry if I am going off topic here a bit is HORSE I've noticed some players walking away during different games, because they don't know how to play them. and those that do, can for sure take advantage of these "fish" knowing the odds of your cards pre flop is the most important part of all community card variant games. In Omaha, knowing how some cards play well with others. ie: having a hand that plays with a flush and a straight is more profitable then a pocket pair of aces, and 2 duds ie: having a hand such as JJ 54s looks really tempting to play but its not very profitable unless you hit a monster flop. and thats why Omaha players are so loose because all those cards they are holding, they think they can flop a monster every time and cash in but all those flops u limp in or call min raises, won't equal to the 1 monster you win. |

Thanks Ass, yeah as I mentioned in another post I do like playing HORSE, that is one reason I want to improve my Omaha game as I think it's my weakest of the 5. It was funny, I played a HORSE freeroll the other day and the amount of people who had no idea what was going on was classic (especially in the Razz), half the people had obviously just jumped in as it was a freeroll but really didn't know what they were doing.
What is a good Omaha hi hand without high pockets? You said "having a hand that plays with a flush and a straight is more profitable then a pocket pair of aces" Do you mean a hand like this: Ad Kd 10s 9s ? Would you play this: 10h 9h 7c 6c ? It's hard to work out the odds with so many cards in your hand! ![]() |

please don't mistake what I mean by less profitable
aces are always great I'm also giving you the advice assuming your playing low micro tables where on a 10 seater, your lucky if 4-5 fold...... that is where the above hands, cash in large Quote:
any two suited connectors other then the same suit of course and higher then 7, will be the most PROFITABLE |
