Im convinced the only way you can win tournaments is through luck. Finishing in the money is fair enough but you need to win races to win. And even to finish in the money u need to win races.
I come 6th in a game yesterday (finally a return to money finishes. I need to try and keep it up in SNGs now aswell!!!), but still the person who won was just a total risk taker and would call with any 2 cards. Also might i add to get to the final table i had to race an untold amount of times. I saw him in the middle stages of the tournament call 2 all in raise/reraise with Q3s and indeed win. I dont know if he wanted to just stop playing at that point but that was pretty suicidal. Anyway. You need to win races. When i seem to do this race early and gather chips thing i get knocked out very early. Im just a very unlucky player (as i keep moaning) |

Good advice - thanks !
Regarding luck and Tournies - I'm sort of with you - of course good luck can make it a breeze, but I've recently found (again, I dont really play like this *wink*) - If you use your position and raise the right amount at the right times you can steal sooo many blinds, and quite often a lot of pre flop callers. The tightness of tournies can really work in your favour. I've found you can take control quite easily - UNLESS you have a calling station or All-in nutter on your table. Basically, as I gain confidence, I'm finding you "know" when to bluff raise (due to position, and the players you are up against). My error was to do this and then hold on to the hand. Silly me. Of course - total crap cards in a tournie is damn hard work, and if you have people who have sussed you out you are buggered, but I've certainly won a LOT of hands with sod all in my hands. At the end of the day I noticed other good players raising and winning far far too many hands and thought - "I want some of that action!" lol :-) |

What about Super Systems 1? Would you recomend starting with no. 2?
I'm thinking of grabbing these, the hardcore maths involved has always put me off, that and the fact that they're thicker than War & Peace... But I think I'll get one, even if it's just to dip into rather than reading back to back, might give me a headache though.... ![]() |

I have not read SS1. However, I would expect 2 to have more insights. I own 2 and have read the hold-em and Tourney sections numerous times (though not in a couple years, so Ill be reading them again this month). It is so massive because of all of the other games. I have probably studied (read multiple times, taking notes) 200-300 pages of it, not all of it. I havent messed with triple draw or stud yet, those are still around the corner. But get one of the copies of SS. Now. NOW.
