Question Advice ....

I know this is primarily an internet poker forum but was looking for some advice !

Played a live game last night (pub game ) first time for me, 30 people €15 ($10) in, payouts were €180, €60, €30

It started off like a rocket people calling everything !! raising on nothing, all in with pair a 66's before the flop lol an I thought PKR was bad this was mental..... So I tightened up thinking I'll play my big hands well and get some chips up, stacks were 100,000 blinds started at 1000 & 2000.

On every hand there were at least 6/7 people seeing the flop on a 10 seater all calling the blinds or calling raises, hitting low pairs or high cards - odd time hitting a real good hand.

I'm gettin nothing, all rags dealt, so I start playing some marginal hands limping into a couple a pots and hitting nothing, blinds are rising every 10 minutes.

I'm not throwing away chips but Im not getting the hands to go with either !

So I'm in mid/late position as far as I can tell everyone at the table is loose and will call/check to the river, I get KQ suited (best hand so far) blinds at this stage are 2000 & 4000 - I raise 20000, thinking this will drive out the limpers still to come etc (possibly a bad move but its the best hand I've had so far and Im pissed off at this stage lol) I get 5 callers !! now I'm confused, flop comes over 3,3,3 - 3 checks in front of me, I go 20000 K high seems good to me the way these guys are playing, 2 fold 2 callers - turn comes a 6, checked into me again - so at this stage I'm thinking these guys have nothing and my K seems best, I check (prob should a raised but the way things were going I would have been called) either way river is a 2, check - raise 10000 into me - at this stage I think I'm betting all this way and I have nothin but I have to see what he had I call last guy folds - I turn over KQs he turns over 52o LOL I mean come on, he's called 40000 in raises on 52o, Im shocked he makes a fh I'm half stack gone.

This scenario happens all night and face card seems to be "worth a pop" regardless of the betting/position/blinds/raises in front they just keep calling ... finally I bust out in 11th, and things arent much better when I watch the final table - all in with 2 spades for like 300,000 not even connected cards ...

I'm looking to see if anyone else has had such a situation and how do you play it, seems if I play tight and don't get cards I blind out, if I play aggressive I get called ?? anything in between is a coin toss !

Prob is where I am theres not a lot of good games about and I have to start somewhere

Your thoughts ?

my first thought is
how do i get into this game?

first of all, its good that you reconize the player types at the table.

However, tightening up would be your downfall, and playing aggressive would be worse.

The reason you shouldnt be aggessive, is because they wont fold
so dont bluff, cause they dont care, aperently.

Basically you want to limp into every reasonable hand as cheap as possible.

When you miss, its check fold.
When you hit something, its check call
When you hit big, its check raise, or bet small-call raises...

when you win pots, act like you are the luckiest SOB on the planet.
when you lose pots, look confused ( how the .... oh lol, you had an ace )

I made this a sticky, there's a good lesson in here. Great answer Assistanc3 and thanks for posting the question WHalloranIRL.

This happens both in in live play and online, so knowing how to deal with it is essential.

btw - I think the fact it was in a pub explains the play style. Lots of players "having a laugh". You are not going to get a proper game with that crowd.

My home games were like that until my friends, who I "forced" into playing got the bug properly, once they got the bug (took about 3 sessions) they started playing "properly" and now we have a fantasticly startegic game. (I knew one of my mates had got the bug properly when he said a few days later, "damn , I've been thinking about last weeks game lots you know! - damn - I have lots to learn!" :-p

Assistances' advice is spot on for a very loose game, and exactly right for PKR at lower stakes too - funnily enough! :-p - grab cheap flops quietly, then sneak in and clean out the fish, btu carefully, as you never know what you are up against!

it should pay off, just make sure you're seeing cheap flops. If the blinds don't go up, you should be able to call 50% of the hands.

Also keep this in mind, the more you drink the looser you play. I noticed that I was always the chipleader early on in home games, but rarely came home with much of a profit. My only conclusion was the influence of alcohol. Sipping on Congac and drinking beers while puffing on a stoogie does nothing for my poker game, lol

Well I went again, and same result although I saw a lot more flops this time I just didn't hit many hands, picked up a few pots which kept me going but in the end couple a bad beats and a silly all in call (SS pushed all in to me on the button pre-flop I re-raised all in to chase players out behind - worked - heads up with him, me pocket 10's him AJo - A on the turn). After a few more hands I was gone but I enjoyed this game a lot more much better.

Played a side game then but bubbled but - it was to a Royal Flush not a bad way to go

ME > 84s
Him > J5o
Flop > A Q 10
ME > All In (2BB left at that stage)
HIM > All In
Turn > K

Never thought I would see one let alone get beaten by one lol

Anyway thanks for the tips great help

I appreciate that you were short stacked, but that was a wild all-in.
I'd have folded and hoped for something better to push with, still you got to see his Royal Flush I suppose...

I've seen worse allins

I had flopped a full house, Queens, over Kings
then got Kings over Queens on the turn, not to hard for me to smooth call.

River was a blank unless someone was on a staight draw.

guy fires at the pot all in, I keel over laughing as I push in my chips

he hoped we both used the community cards as he was
holding 4d 2d
board [Qd Kh Qs Ks 9c]
me [Qc Kc]

I seen Ivey last year i think it was donk out in Aussie Millions on a stone cold bluff. So its not about bluffing, its about being caught.

Prob should a mentioned that I made my flush at that stage with my 84s so I thought it wasn't a bad shot for an all in
