General Poker Chat is for anything thats poker related that isn't covered anywhere else. Like WSOP and whatever. Non 3D Poker rooms are for 2D poker room discussions. It's all pretty simple. If something is way out of place I usually end up moving it.

fair enough i agree that posts shouldn't have to be solely pkr related.
Downturns or luck basically, have little to do with strategy. Unless of course the downturn in your fortunes is to do with a regression in your standard of play. In which case i suggest you review your starting hand requirements (ie stop trying to be Gus Hansen by playing 8,6 off in early position) Bankroll management is vital in combating downturns. They say if your playing sngs you should have 50x the buyin you play. Eg you play $10 sngs you should have $500 in your account. This allows you to go on a bad run without impacting so greatly on your state of mind, state of mind being key to good performance. Once you start playing scared, or to the other extreme chasing the debt, you enter into a downward spiral resulting in progressively worse play. Before you know it you'll find yourself waiting for a wealthy relative to perish so you can play poker again. |

50x the buyin for SnG's? I wouldn't go that far. We've mentioned here before that you shouldn't risk more than 10% of you bankroll on any one game and that goes for SnG's as well. Unless you're new to poker, I see no reason to play smaller limits. If you have a $500 roll you're probably better off play $25 SnG's than $10 ones. Just keep in mind the skill level between $10 and $25 is much different. So again if you're new to poker, play the smaller ones, then move up.
As for pushing hard in first position like Gus Hansen, well you can, but certainly not at small limits. I think a lot of people forget that when he or Daniel push hard they are playing for much higher stakes than any of us play. If you push hard for $5 in early position in a .50/$1 you may get called. Push hard in early position for $500 in a $5/$10 and only a couple of top hands will call you. Always keep that in mind when you play. Low limits are like home games. Someone is always the sheriff trying to keep the other player honest.

Yeah, I've heard that from several people. FTP is one of those sites that you either love or hate.
On the other hand, I think you're gonna love Cake Poker for the soft games. I've been pushing the site for a reason you know

I actually find their turbos to be too slow, I love the super fast turbos, sit down and be done in 30 minutes
Cake keeps adding games, so they will have more very soon. This site is about the same age as PKR so it's still building. Would freerolls with the winner getting say a $200 WPT tournament entry be of interest to you guys? Or maybe some $8k or 20k tourney coupons? If we get enough interest, I can definately get those scheduled. Ok, off to catch another plane. Going to visit the parents for a week. Thankfully theres a trip to a casino this weekend for some more live poker, because it seems I didn't get my fill in Vegas. ![]()

Wow, you are on a bad streak Dodgey. At the moment I am running fairly well in SnG's. As you know, I play mainly cash but I have been throwing in some SnG's because that's the direction I eventually want to go I think.
I use Poker Office to track everything I do on Full Tilt (great piece of software btw) so I did a bit of cut and paste to show you my progress so far. I've started small at the $5 ones. (You may notice that the average number of players is 8.94 - I have no idea why this is, I always play 9 seaters so I think it's a glitch in the software). The Player Type is how it assesses my play. It also rates any players you play against which is very useful if you plan to steal a few pots I was interested to read one of your other posts Dodgey about 'playing to lose' but to be honest, it's not a bad way to play! I often bet on draws - the semi bluff. You might take the pot right there. If you get called you still have outs. If you get re-raised, simply fold. PS: Sorry about the image size but the forum seems to shrink it down. If you can't see the figures correctly I'll try something else |

Nice one mate - that looks exactly like my Party Poker game stats lol. :-)
Keep it up - SNGs are a fast earner imho . p.s. Damn - that poker office looks great. Holdem Indicator is OK for the realtime stuff but I'd like to analyse my hand histories. Can anyone recommend a free tool to do that for me? I tried something some time ago but it produced pages of incomprehensible junk. The info Poker Office throws up looks clean and simple Last edited by Dodgey101 : 07-12-2007 at 04:59 PM. |

Logically and mathamatically there is no such thing as a down swing. Every hand is a new one. There are no poker gods that are influencing your fate. A down swing therefore could only last for 1 hand, max |
